SOMERSET RURAL MUSIC SCHOOL SATURDAY MUSIC CENTRE STAFF / DESK NOTES JANUARY 26 WEEK THREE Available on-line – www.tasatmusac.org.uk. TODAY Dave Tomlinson is still far from fit but hopes to return before half-term. My last stint filling in for Gwyn Flitters much to the relief of her pupils. Gwyn returns from New Zealand to be with us next week. Those of you fortunate enough to see Gwyn opening the bowling in NZ's current test against West Indies would have been thrilled and heartened by this all round display for Gwyn never takes the field without her Dolmetsch treble in her back pocket (Witness the reverse swing achieved on the first morning!) NEXT WEEK By invitation from Stephen Perks, John Cole will be giving a talk on Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade in the Learning Resources at 11.15. The following day John will be conducting his orchestra, Orchestra West in a programme at Kings College which will include the Strauss 'Four Last Songs' sung by the winner of Cardiff Singer of the Year, Elizabeth Watts, and Scheherazade. Free admission is open to adults and students. PROGRESS BOOKS. Due to my absence on the first morning of term these did not find their way into registers. However Fiona is covered with them on the Desk so either help yourself or get the student to pick one up. I have found as a teacher that some form of lesson notes is essential for me to know just what I am up to and as a parent it tells me what is required from my child. As to whether this is delivered I am not too confident. EXAM RESULTS More please for publication. ADRIAN TAYLOR Adrian and Frances have settled very quickly in rotten old France and he sends his regards to everybody here. Adrian will be returning for a short playing session soon and will be looking us up. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE At a meeting held this week it was agreed that changes may have to be made in activities offered in order to make the Centre more manageable in view of my retirement as Director at the end of next term. Further it was agreed that the completion of the AGM scheduled for March 1st should go ahead as planned – Heathfield School 11.00 for 11.15. The accounts for 06/07 are now complete and will be published at the AGM .
